Today we exam med the terminology of type, how to scales, invert, section, Layer and outline.

One Of Many (Museum of Everything)

This is also one of the many posters I saw.

I really like this poster. It was created in 1966 when printing was done by a print press (A printing press is a device for applying pressure to an inked surface resting upon a print medium (such as paper or cloth), thereby transferring the ink). This would have taken many hours to design from initial design to final. 

I’m Speechless (Museum of Everything)

I’m quite speechless. There not much that I can say about this, but it looks quite interesting considering it was produced in1967. I would like to see this on a glass stained window.

Our day trip to the museum started at the meeting point at the station Chalk Farm. From there we walked towards the Museum of Everything.

Milton Glaser My Inspiration!

Milton Glaser (b.1929) is among the most celebrated graphic designer in the United States. 

This is produced After the 9/11, a poster that was distributed around the city by students from the School of Visual Arts as well as wrapped around a million copies of the Daily News. It was to reflect on what everyone was experiencing after the tragedy.

About a year afterwards, I produced a series of buttons for the Nation—the magazine that is, not the country. They expressed ideas that I felt should be made explicit.

Type Press

A printing press is a mechanical device for applying pressure to an inked surface resting upon a print medium (such as paper or cloth), thereby transferring the ink. Typically used for texts, the invention and spread of the printing press are widely regarded as the most influential events in the second millennium AD, revolutionising the way people conceive and describe the world they live in, and ushering in the period of modernity.

Day Task 'Image and Text'

This task was probably the most fun; the aim was to cut out any image that you find in a newspaper > then cut out the headlines and sub headlines from the newspaper > then take 4 images and apply then randomly to headlines or sub headlines to give a different meaning to the image to produce different narratives. I particularly like the image of David Cameron, I think it’s because it really give of many meaning and also it’s humorous.

Day Task 'Cropping'

Today’s task was to understanding how cropping an image can alter the 

viewer’s reading by selecting and editing, zooming in or out and changing the 
format of an image to produce a narrative. I found this quite uninteresting. 
I found the second part of the session very entertaining (above image). 

Something I Decided To Do!

This was achieved by using the shutter speed on a DSLR camera. The way it works is by adjusting the shutter speed that would allow you to control the movement of the subject. A fast shutter speed will freeze the subject and a slow shutter speed will make it look blurred as the subject moves. You can also combine flash with a slow speed to get movement and blur all in the same shot.

The shutter speeds of cameras can go from long exposures of 30 or more seconds to fast speeds of anything as short as 1/8000sec.

I personally chose to use individual colors for individual letters to look attractive. I think it came out really effective considering it was my firs time! 

Who likes Helvetica?

Helvetica is one of the most popular typefaces of all time. Max Miedinger designed it in 1957 for the Haas foundry of Switzerland.

I found this piece of information very amusing and interesting, it basically shows the view of each famous graphic designer of his or her perception of Helvetica. I think Helvetica is a type of font that would only look good for designing specific style of creation.

In my opinion the process of generating effective ideas is a key element of successful graphic design. The world of graphic design is demanding, and professional designers need to be versatile, open to new ideas and able to generate concepts which stand out from the crowd. 

Many times I like to experiment with my type, I enjoy relating letters with shapes. This is a very typical way of how I would generate graphics. This design (above) is done for an exhibition. I would imagine this on a wall almost looking like pies of art.

Upgraded Version of Love Type

Upgraded Version of Love type design. This was the process I did for a poster to express typography, I decide to use Helvetica because it’s a type that has no meaning, exception or motion it’s very straight forward, and it’s also simple which in its self creates sophistication.

Sketches

This is just something I did in my spear time. I was told by my tutor Darren Raven ‘practice makes perfect’, so recently I’ve been doing some rough hand drawn sketches. So far it’s going quite well although it’s so time consuming, but it’s a great reward after finishing.     

Illustration Drawing

Just something I did in class, the aim was to design, take photographs or show illustration drawings that would represent out university from a tourist’s aspect. We were put in groups. Each of us had an individual part; I chose to take part in drawing part of London to reflect on the location.

This collage looks very much like pop art, colorful colors, stands out and comical looking design. I think this is one of my few favorites postcards.

Postcard - 4

This was the second stage I went onto after the mistake, I thought I take it an extra mile and add some Blue ink, to brighten the look. Came out really well and it’s a style that could potentially be used for a information brochure. 

Postcard - 5

I think this one is my favorite; it has a unique style to it that make you wonder. I thought of the idea after make a mistake and my only recovery option was to cut out the eyes…I after found this was a great technique.  

Postcard - 6

On this day our task was to produce postcards from a news papers and magazines in a style on a collage. I found this very free, something unusual from my typical style of designing. 

Macroeconomics

Macroeconomics is a branch of economics that deals with the performance, structure, behavior and decision-making of the entire economy, be that a national, regional, or the global economy. With microeconomics, macroeconomics is one of the two most general fields in economics

I found this very enjoyable. I base it on macroeconomics because it’s quite a challenging topic. I chose to design this in a shape of a circle specifically to keep the viewers interested to know more. I think it looks similar to a scuba diving helmet. 

Visually Simplified

This is what I came up with in class. The aim was to produce a visually simplify or form a design that would have a relation with shape…the leaf. I think this absolutely came out beautiful; I like the original hand drawn shape. 
The last two edited designs looks almost like stars being linked up to form some sort of design.

Visually Simplified Part Two

Second part of the simplified leaf, I came up with this design by adding each end of the leaf. I think it looks very much like a sonar radar and interesting… how it’s so distorted at a point where it’s unrecognizable. I used illustrator to develop the idea. 

  

Magnetic!

This picture is taken at the LCC University exhibition; it’s a design of a title entirely designed with a magnet.

We Get Older

 

This was a picture taken by an old SLR camera. I exposed two pictures over each other to get that dull look. 

Apple Keyboard

This is just something I did in my spare time; I had taken these photos in unique angles to show different perspectives. 

Wood and Hay

This is a very close view of a hay ball and wood, it’s initially used for decorating flowers. I found taking a close view looks unusual and effective. I edited the under Light room 3 which came out really well it basically aloud me to manipulate the contrast, exposure, blackness, shadows etc. this was also done along side the one day project in University.

Silver Pinecone

The aim was to take a picture of a pinecone from different aspects to show off the shape and texture. I did this along side a one-day project in University where I was told to go around taking photographs from unique angles.  

Anonymous Image

This was taken in my University. I gave it a high contrast to give it that professional sharp look. I used iphoto and Photoshop, which turned out really well.

Start Of University

I love graphics ever since I learnt to draw at age 8, from there onwards I developed how to design advance. I chose to come to LCC University because I felt it’s a great course for my type of designing, and it will polish my understanding of graphics and design.

My First day at LCC University I was quite nervous, from my perspective I would have thought University life would be so demanding! Having strict tutors, but it turned out really well, all the tutors are really relaxed and easy going.

Day started with tutors introducing themselves. Darren Raven is our course leader; his really humorous and laid back, Catherine Smith is my tutor that deals with Personal & Professional Development (PPD) and also again all the tutors are really helpful. David teaches us the programming.

In time I hope to achieve a better understanding of the designing industries and my course tutors. 

Gently so far everything is going really well. I feel there a large difference between college and university. I feel that there’s lots of independence you need understand, also need to be on top of the game to be a great student. Great determination, focus and deliver more then required.
